Teaching tips and guidelines

bullet It is important that instructors model the club's high standards by showing the highest levels of respect to all participants.
bullet Plan your class! Take 10 minutes and think about what you are going to do. If it helps, write it down.
bullet Some good ways to structure a class:

Technique-based

Choose a technique and do it from various attacks.

Do variations of the technique from the same attack.

Do the same technique from suwari-waza, handmi handachi-waza and tachi-waza.

Do the same technique from weapon (tanto, bokken or jo) attack and unarmed.

...

Attack-based

Choose an attack and do various techniques.

Concept-based

Choose a concept and keep referring to it.

bullet Teach what you know and/or where you are at at the moment. Feel free to explore your own aikido through your teaching.
bullet Look after beginners and feel free to ask your co-instructor or another senior student to look after them separately.
bullet Aikido technique only please.
bullet Have fun.
